Little Campbell is a very lively and busy 2 1/2 yr old. She is so busy in fact that I really worked up a sweat photographing her. What I want my clients to understand is how much I care about getting good images. I work very hard because I want just as badly, if not more than you to produce beautiful images. Campbell's parents were great. At times they had to step in and assist. Other times, they allowed me to ask them to disappear for a couple minutes. It was a real team effort. Thanks you guys for being such great clients!

Emily you were such a joy to photograph! I know it is not easy to be in front of the camera. After shooting a while, things really started to flow well.

Sometimes I notice my clients need time to relax in front of the camera. At first they may feel self-consious. That's ok! I will guide you and tell you where to look, how to relax, breath...Before you know it, you're a natural like Emily became! You will come alive before the lens.

I am soooo excited about these high quality wedding albums and Guest Books. Many of my clients are asking about them. The wedding albums lay completely flat and include templates for panoramic designs. Each of your wedding images can be spread across both pages! Of course, you can also design each page individually instead of panoramically if you wish. It's up to you! I have created some beautiful layout options & instruction for you to choose from.

Wedding album covers come in Leather or a more cost-conscious but still lovely Faux-leather. You have several color options and free embossing is available. Best of all, all of my custom wedding albums are available online for previewing BEFORE production! This ensures that you have control over the design and layout of your album.

The 10x10 guest books have a strong wire binding and have both images from the engagement session and pages for guests to personalize at the wedding reception. They come in black or ivory and include complimentary embossing.

A Family Wedding in Mexico

My brother had his wedding in Merida Mexico two years ago. He just had his anniversary this month. This prompted me to look up the photographs I took during the trip. I was not the official wedding photographer because I had never met his bride and she used someone she knew down there, so the trip was purely a vacation for me. I had a wonderful time. I got to just enjoy the wedding from a different perspective shooting only a few candids now and then. This worked out great for them because it turned out the bride had not accounted for a photographer shooting during or after the ceremony. She only had studio and group photographs taken before the wedding. My candid wedding photographs of the wedding are scattered among my wedding galleries at aaimaging.com.
As for the rest of the trip-
The city of Merida was AMAZING! There was incredible architecture everywhere and the people looked so interesting with their Mayan clothes and exotic faces. The city was an incredible mixture of old and new. Here are some of the shots (shown in slide show) I have dug up.

I like to show my clients how a very boring background is not a problem. A photographer who knows what they are doing can work with the surrounding environment-even minimizing it by blurring the background to the point of abstracting it. Notice in these two images (above and below) the blurred background. This technique is important to know in wedding photography because locations for weddings and receptions vary so much. I must be flexible and creative to get the most interesting photographs. Many a wedding picture could be greatly improved by using a wide open aperture so that the bride and groom remain the most important subject in an image.

The above and below image are so engaging because of the baby's eyes looking directly at the camera. I do not always require the subject to be looking directly into the camera. In fact, the opposite is often what I gravitate towards. Still, I like these images BECAUSE she is looking into the lens. For me-there are very few hard, fast rules in photography. Just go with what you feel...

This image was shot indoors using only ambient lighting. The ISO was 100, aperture: 2.8, shutter speed 1/50. The image was then brightened using curves. This was a moment captured unexpectedly. I had a feeling the right moment was about to happen, and sure enough it did...I was ready.

Lenz Wedding

This couple actually got married in Germany, but came back to Lexington, Ky (the bride's home) for a "post wedding" ceremony without vows, bridesmaids, cake cutting, etc. It was a simple discourse given at the hall, then a reception at the Hyatt. I enjoyed photographing their non-wedding day. They had almost no expectations so I had complete creative control; but they were very pleased with their "wedding" photographs.
We had a private meeting for their couple shots earlier in the day. The light was perfect, and though it was a bit chilly they were great sports about sacrificing warmth for great shots. I felt very relaxed and I really enjoyed that time with them.

Shot on Canon 20D with 24-70mm 2.8L lens
I used Auto focus and it was on F/18!!! why does it seem so NOT SHARP?
by the way, you can see from the whole-open shot how close in the crop is that shows the pixelation.

In answer to your question about the grainy picture: Did you use a meter to get the exposure that you chose to use?
If you did, was the battery in the meter old? Also, I am trying to remember how fast the lights will allow you to set your shutter speed. There's a limit, do you remember that?

Hello to anyone interested in wedding photography. This is the first post I am publishing for AA Imaging Wedding Photography. I hope this blog can be a useful source both to myself, and to others out there. Hopefully, other photographers will come to this blog to share their insights and to ask questions.
